Are you a people-person with a knack for problem-solving and desire to make a difference in your community? The City of Durango is seeking a Customer Service Specialist to join our team at the Transit Center. This unique role offers the chance to build upon your customer service skills while cross-training in parking enforcement.
In this role, youโll be aย friendly and knowledgeable resource, helping community members understand parking rules, transportation services, and city ordinances. Your primary responsibilities will includeย assisting customers, handling financial transactions, andย maintaining accurate recordsย of interactions and transactions.
When assigned, youโll also support the Parking Division by enforcing parking ordinances and issuing citations. Youโll serve as aย City ambassador to Durangoโs locals and visitors, promoting a safe and welcoming environment.
What Youโll Do in This Role:ย
- Provide friendly and proactive customer service via phone, email, and in-person to address inquiries related to parking permits, transit passes, bills, and other transportation services.
- Educate the community on parking rules, transit regulations, and system operations, and assist with purchasing parking permits and transit pass renewals.
- Handle financial transactions, including reviewing, processing, and balancing payments, invoices, and citations.
- Communicate effectively with other City Departments, parking officers, and external vendors.
- Maintain knowledge of all aspects of transit passes, routes, and associated computer programs.
- Manage and maintain accurate filing systems for the Transportation Department.
When Assigned to Parking Enforcement:
- Enforce City parking ordinances and issue citations for violations.
Monitor parking zones, issue warnings, provide directions, and encourage compliance with City regulations regarding parking, bicycles, skateboards, smoking, signage, sidewalks, and littering. - Operate and maintain enforcement equipment, including citation and immobilization devices.
- Communicate with City departments using two-way radios and coordinate with central dispatch regarding safety concerns, violations, and operational updates.
- Collect parking data and prepare records and reports on violations and actions taken.
- Act as a City ambassador, providing clear and helpful directions to the public.
- Perform additional tasks, such as meter bag installation and retrieval, vehicle cleaning, and assisting with office duties as needed.
You Have:ย
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Two years of customer service experience.
- Experience accepting and recording payments.
- Skill in communicating clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
- Knowledge of modern office procedures, methods, computer equipment, and specialized software.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all work, including data entry, record keeping, and financial transactions.
