The City of Durango’s Multimodal Division is committed to creating a connected, safe, and sustainable transportation network for everyone. We’re looking for a Multimodal Specialist to join our team and help make that vision a reality.
In this role, you’ll advocate for sustainable transportation, encouraging residents to explore various ways to get around. You’ll develop engaging programs and events, create informative materials, and connect directly with the community to promote initiatives that align with our goals of connectivity, safety, equity, sustainability, and public health.
You will work under general guidance to perform various programmatic and administrative functions in support of the Multimodal Division, including public outreach and education, program development, special event coordination, and administrative tasks. Additionally, you’ll provide complex assistance and analysis to the Multimodal Manager in the implementation of the City’s Strategic Plan, the Multimodal Transportation Plan, and regional coordination of multimodal transportation efforts.
Public Education, Communication, and Outreach
- Develop public education and marketing strategies and materials to raise awareness of transportation options.
- Create presentations for local employers, civic groups, and other organizations.
- Provide travel training, conduct interviews with participants, and track results.
- Conduct community bicycle education classes, with potential requirement to become a League Certified Instructor.
- Form partnerships with local organizations and businesses.
- Create and distribute educational handouts, press releases, newsletters, website content, and social media posts.
- Respond promptly and courteously to inquiries from the public, City staff, vendors, and other agencies.
- Update and maintain the division’s website and social media platforms.
Event Planning and Coordination
- Plan and coordinate events like Winter Bike to Work Day, Float to Work Day, and Clean Commute Day, managing outreach, logistics, and implementation.
- Coordinate volunteer activities, such as bicycle and pedestrian counts and other events.
Program Development
- Manage the Safe Routes to School program, including overseeing bike rodeos, walk audits, and educational outreach.
- Oversee the Way to Go Durango commuter rewards program.
- Develop and implement commuter programs, such as Commuter of the Month, employer incentives, and carpool programs.
Research and Administrative Support
- Conduct research on multimodal transportation and funding opportunities.
- Assist with grant research, invoicing, record-keeping, and general grants management.
- Attend and assist with capital improvement project meetings as necessary.
- Assist with general office and administrative tasks.
You Have:
- Bachelor’s degree and/or combination of transportation, education, and event experience.
- Minimum of two years previous experience in the transportation field, administrative support, customer service, education, or event planning.
- Proficiency in general computer use, with intermediate knowledge of the
- Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn job-specific programs for finance, reporting, security management, and parking management.
- Past experience with marketing, including using various social media platforms to promote programs and designing graphics using software similar to Adobe Illustrator.
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends.
- Knowledge of the various transportation modes and their applicable rules, needs, purposes, and context in Durango.
