The City of Durango’s Public Works Department seeks a Streets Manager to lead our Streets Division. From snow removal to construction projects, you’ll oversee a dedicated team in maintaining 83 miles of City streets.

Your responsibilities will include managing staff, coordinating with contractors, and optimizing operational efficiency through strategic planning and resource management. You’ll work closely with other city departments and external partners, contributing to capital improvement projects and community initiatives. You’ll also handle budget preparation, safety and compliance, and respond to public inquiries.

What You’ll Do in This Role: 

  • Oversee maintenance and repair of City streets, including planning and managing service activities.
  • Develop and implement Streets Division goals, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitor and evaluate service delivery efficiency; recommend staffing and service improvements.
  • Lead and manage division staff, including hiring, training, assigning tasks, and evaluating performance.
  • Help develop and administer the division budget, including submitting recommendations and monitoring expenditures.
  • Conduct field inspections to prioritize and estimate resources for maintenance projects.
  • Coordinate with contractors and utility providers to ensure safe and marked work areas.
  • Supervise in-house projects and special events, ensuring proper equipment and staffing.
  • Prepare and review bid specifications for equipment and capital improvement projects, such as chipseal, street overlays, and street reconstruction.
  • Maintain compliance with safety standards, conduct team safety meetings, and provide information on hazardous material and safety precautions.
  • Stay updated on industry trends through professional meetings and training.
  • Address and resolve citizen inquiries in a professional manner.

You Have: 

  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • Two or more years of specialized training in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field.
  • Five years of public works experience, including administrative and supervisory roles.
  • Ability to maintain a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and flagger certification.
  • Strong understanding of public works maintenance, including street construction, snow/ice removal, traffic regulations, stormwater management, and safety practices.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality customer service.
  • Experience in employee supervision and team leadership.
