The Animal Care Technician I provides excellent customer service to animal shelter customers as well as care to the animals residing at the Animal Shelter.

Schedule: 5 days per week, 8am-4:30pm. Will include at least one weekend day.

Essential Functions:

Assures Safe, Clean, Healthy Shelter Environment

Perform daily kennel duties as needed, cleaning all necessary areas of animal holding kennels. Maintains shelter grounds by cleaning when necessary several times weekly.
Feed and provide any other necessary care for all shelter animals.
Provide a healthy, safe, clean and pleasant environment and facilities for the animals and public while promoting a humane and caring attitude towards all visitors to the shelter, people and animals alike.
Assess Animal Health

Monitor the health of the animals on an ongoing basis and rapidly identify any health problems or concerns and immediately report to the shelter manager or staff vet.
Medicate animals as directed, provide treatment and care for animals including vaccinations, examinations, performance of medical treatments (ie bandaging, nail clipping, ear cleaning, etc.) and euthanasia as needed (if certified).
Admit and release animals in a responsive, courteous and tactful manner and to inform the volunteers, staff and public of any pertinent medical information on the animals’ care
Facilitate Adoptions and Assist With Volunteer Program

Counsel potential adopters in selecting a pet that fits their lifestyle; discuss the responsibilities of pet ownership; give information about specific animals and explain the adoption process.
Process all adoptions and adoption follow ups.

Administrative Duties and Customer Service

Maintain a friendly demeanor and provide good customer service on the phone and in person.
Dispatch incoming calls to officers on duty.
Greet and assist all customers entering the ECAS lobby.
Daily record keeping and file organization.
Qualifications:

At least 1 year of experience in customer service as well as experience working with animals; or, any combination of education and experience which produces the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Must 18 years of age or older
Must possess a valid state driver’s license and a satisfactory motor vehicle record.
