Hiring Range: $24.75-$29.09. The maximum pay for this position is $33.42.

The Community Health Educator provides support across all programs of the Healthy Families team including the Supplemental Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), Nurse-Family Partnership, and Family Connects, and additional support to the Public Health and Environment team as a whole. The Community Health Educator develops proficiency in providing the full range of WIC services to participants.

The Community Health educator works under minimal supervision and exercises independent judgment along with a high degree of initiative within established procedures CoWIC Policy Staffing Outlines. Additionally, the Community Health Educator provides interpretation support to the Public Health & Environment Department, and other programmatic support as necessary.

Schedule: M-F, 8am to 5pm

Key Responsibilities:

Client Services:

  • Conduct health and nutrition assessments
  • Develop individualized nutrition plans
  • Provide breastfeeding support
  • Refer clients to community resources as needed

Program Support:

  • Assist with program planning and implementation
  • Collect and analyze program data
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations

Community Engagement:

  • Participate in community outreach and education initiatives
  • Build relationships with community partners

Qualifications:

Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification, or Registration:

  • Minimum Education – High school diploma or GED.
  • Preferred Education – Associate degree in Nutrition Science or related field, Medical Assistant Certificate, Certified Nursing Assistant, LPN, Diet Technician or Mental Health Assistant.
  • Minimum Experience: Previous work experience with the public. Previous Spanish language interpretation experience.
  • Preferred Experience: WIC and/or public health experience and experience with low-income participants is preferred.
  • Preferred Certification: Certified Medical Interpreter
  • Current CPR Certification or receipt of CPR Certification within six months of employment.
  • Able to take and pass a basic math test related to anthropometric measurements.
  • Required to take and pass the Lactation Management Certification test within one year of employment. LMS is required to provide and educate lactating Mothers with medical-grade electric pumps.
  • Required to take and pass the WIC Certification Program
    • Level one within a month
    • Level two within three months
    • Level three within six months
