The Fairgrounds Lead Maintenance Technician performs various maintenance duties to efficiently operate the Fairgrounds and the county’s facilities and grounds, and keep them in proper repair and clean and safe for public use.

Schedule: Mon – Fri 7am – 3:30pm, some overtime and weekends may be required.

Location: Position will do most of their work at the Eagle County Fairgrounds, however they may need to help at other county facilities located in Gypsum, Avon, Edwards and El Jebel.

Job Duties:

  • Fairgrounds – maintain arenas, grounds and provide event support. 
  • Acts as a lead over a group/shift/location for temporary or seasonal help to support event set up or clean up. This includes temporary and community service workers (up to 6 workers) throughout the year,  and 2 additional seasonal positions during the summer.
  • May need to work weekends occasionally.
  • Drives trucks and operates equipment in the performance of duties. 
  • Removes snow and  other debris from sidewalks and parking lots.
  • Repetitive motion constant while performing operating equipment.  Must be able to sit in various equipment for extended periods of time. 
  • Performs preventive maintenance on lawn equipment, snow removal equipment, and power tools.
  • Maintains and repairs existing irrigation systems; replaces and adjusts sprinkler heads; digs up old lines and trenches and installs new lines; repairs broken lines.  Maintains and repairs irrigation ditches and pipe; cleans and burns ditches; replaces ditch liner; cleans and clears steel grates of debris, weed, and trash.
  • Performs plumbing work; repairs leaking faucets and pipes; unstops and repairs toilets; unstops drains; installs plumbing ducts, pipes, and fixtures.
  • Replaces light bulbs and tubes; installs starter ballasts in lights; repairs fixtures or replaces fixture ends and wires.
  • Welds and performs metal fabrication. Performs carpentry work in repairing county buildings and furniture; interprets user requirements; uses provided plans or designs and draws plans; determines materials list; measures, cuts, and assembles materials; finishes project with appropriate paint, stain, varnish, or wood sealer; operates power saw, hand saw, electric drills, screw guns, nail guns, and other hand tools.
  • Locks and unlocks county buildings.   Runs errands as required; delivers supplies and equipment to offices; picks up tools and materials.  Moves office equipment including desks, files, books, etc. for county offices. 
  • Removes and replaces mechanical locks.
  • Paints rooms, hallways, and ceilings; patches holes; primes area for painting.
  • Performs janitorial duties; cleans and dust offices, vacuums floors, and washes windows; cleans and sanitizes bathrooms.
  • Responds to duty calls during off-hours if contacted by county.  May be on official on-call duty at various times.
  • Supervises temporary and community service workers.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • 4 years of maintenance experience
  • Experience with event support in a public and/or arena setting – preferred
  • Experience operating heavy equipment and/or arena grooming equipment – preferred
  • Customer Service: Manages difficult or emotional customer situations;
  • Responds promptly to customer needs; Solicits customer feedback to improve service; Responds to requests for service and assistance; And meets commitments
  • Knowledge of the following:
  • Standard practices, materials, tools, and safety hazards and precautions used in various building trades.
  • Machinery and other equipment used in buildings and grounds maintenance.
  • Variety of construction and maintenance areas including carpentry, plumbing, buildings and grounds maintenance.
  • Applicable rules and codes relating to the installation and repair of building equipment and fixtures.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with others. 
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to be courteous of others while performing repair and maintenance duties. 
  • Ability to use a wide range of hand and power tools, machinery and equipment with area of assignment.
  • Ability to perform skilled trades, such as carpentry, plumbing or painting.
  • Ability to diagnose facility and equipment malfunctions and determine necessary repairs or replacements.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. 
  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail.
  • Position requires continued walking, stooping, standing, crawling, crouching, and some climbing; sometimes on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces. 
  • Must be able to ascend or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like, using feet and legs or hands and arms, bend body downward and forward by bending spine and legs.
  • Must be able to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects; and to reach with hands and arms.
  • Must be able to lift and carry moderately heavy materials, supplies, and equipment (25-50lbs.)frequently; objects weighing 100 pounds or more.
  • Repetitive motion constant while performing operating equipment. Must be able to sit in various equipment for extended periods of time
  • Ability to speak and understand Spanish helpful
  • Driver’s license and satisfactory motor vehicle record check
  • CDL required, or ability to acquire within 90 days of hire.
