Don’t worry! You don’t need direct experience to be successful in the position, you just have to have the ability to work closely with people and the patience to continually learn new things. We will provide you with 12 weeks of on-the-job training and specific courses through the State of Colorado.

What does a typical day as a Public Assistance Specialist look like?

The Public Assistance Specialist determines the eligibility of applicants and recipients for public assistance  programs (ex. Medicaid and food assistance – link) through speaking to clients and fact gathering; maintains current knowledge of program regulations and procedures necessary for multi-program caseload administration; The job involves fact-checking, record keeping in an online system, and compassion for working with clients who may be going through difficult circumstances. What’s most important is that you are flexible, ready to learn and someone who wants to help your co-workers while serving your community.

Hiring Range: $22- $23.19 Hourly

Requirements for the job:

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) language skills sufficient to interview clients and
    communicate and interpret programs.
  • High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent and two years of administrative, clerical or other public contact experience which includes negotiating, interviewing, explaining and gathering information, gathering and compiling data, analysis of data and/or performing of mathematical or legal tasks.
  • Ability to establish and maintain respectful, professional relationships with clients from a diverse population, community partners, staff, and management.
  • Ability to document complex situations in a comprehensive and legible manner.
  • Writing skills used to correspond with clients and members of the community.
  • Compassionate, friendly, patient and easy-going! You must enjoy working in a team environment and supporting others
