Position Summary 
Under the direction of the Director of Community Education, this position supports the organization’s mission by building relationships with youth and school representatives. The Prevention Specialist is responsible for planning and facilitating in-school youth prevention program efforts, supporting the organization’s prevention education efforts, and performing general office duties and other responsibilities as needed with a schedule following the school year calendar. 
Position Responsibilities 
Team Support and General Office  
Be a champion for youth and advocate for policies, practices, and efforts that support their overall healthy development 
Leverage opportunities to develop impactful partnerships 
Ensure youth are recognized as valued partners in our work and in the community 
Maintain positive staff and board relations 
Participate in regular Mountain Youth one-on-one, team and committee meetings to align different efforts and resources across the organization 
Exhibit a willingness and commitment to participate in prevention specialist training and other professional development 
Maintain Mountain Youth internal database and tracking systems 
Support in fundraising efforts and sustainability strategies as needed to maintain the work of the overall organization 
Represent Mountain Youth through collaborative projects as needed 
Support with other Mountain Youth projects, newsletter and communication strategies, and events as needed 
Perform general office duties and other duties as assigned 
Program Oversight and Facilitation 
Communicate with school partners to schedule and plan prevention programs 
Facilitate with fidelity evidence-based in-school prevention programming, including life skills, substance use prevention, young driver safety education and additional prevention programs, as identified by community assessments, to students in elementary through high school  
Work with schools and partners to refer youth who may need targeted prevention or early intervention programs, as concerns arise 
Facilitate targeted prevention and early intervention programs as available and as desired 
Coordinate program supplies and materials to fulfill each program 
Work with community partners and co-teachers for collaborations related to in-school programs 
Participate in behavioral education collaboratives  
Work with the Director of Strategic Impact, colleagues, partners and evaluation consultants to administer and track evaluation tools 
Review evaluation results and explore program adaptations with schools, partners, and Director of Community Education to increase program effectiveness 
Attend trainings to support program development, facilitation and evaluation skills 
Additional Qualifications: 
The Prevention Specialist position requires a high level of professionalism, strong multi-tasking skills, strong classroom management and facilitation skills, ability to connect with and engage youth of all ages, and flexibility. Bilingual English/ Spanish language speaking and multicultural preferred. Experience working with youth and diverse populations in an educational setting with a commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion practices strongly preferred.  
The Prevention Specialist will occasionally be required to perform position duties outside of normal working hours. Travel to meetings or trainings throughout the county, state, and out of the state may be required. It is important that the candidate can conduct themselves in the most courteous and professional manner.  
Compensation and Benefits: 
This part-time hourly position will average 20-30 hours per week for ten months per year. Approximately 60-75% of the time is spent in the classroom teaching, dependent on time of year and program schedules, with the remaining time including planning, scheduling, professional development, team development, meetings and administrative work.  
A total hourly compensation of $28.00-$33.00 per hour for approximately 20-30 hours per week for ten-months per year and will be commensurate with experience. Additional compensation is available for fluent English/ Spanish bilingual applicants. A benefits package is available including paid professional development, an annual wellness stipend and more.
