The Roaring Fork Fire and Rescue Authority is an organization that strives to serve our neighbors, solve problems, and save lives through our shared passion to serve, dedication to excellence, respect for diversity, and commitment to our communities. The agency operates a combination system and provides response to fire, rescue, hazardous materials, and wildland incidents. The agency runs Advanced Life Support ambulances and provides transport services to two Level III trauma centers in the valley. The communities of Snowmass Village, Basalt, El Jebel, Old Snowmass, and Thomasville all rely on RFFR for 24/7 emergency services.


We are currently looking to fill:

Up to THREE (3) full-time Single Role Paramedics.


Single Role Paramedic

Under supervision, the position is responsible for emergency medical services delivery to the town of Snowmass Village, the town of Basalt, and surrounding areas; this includes: basic & advanced life support EMS.  Operates appropriate Authority apparatus dependent on emergency response, public education, and station and equipment maintenance activities.  A well-qualified applicant would be a Paramedic with the appropriate certifications as listed. 

Minimum Requirements:

A)    High School Diploma or GED

B)    A valid State of Colorado driver’s license (or ability to obtain in 30 days)

C)    Valid Colorado or National Registry Paramedic certification

D)    21 years of age

Preferred Requirements:

a.       Valid Colorado, or IFSAC, or Pro-Board Fire Fighter I

b.      Colorado Hazmat Operations Certification, or higher

c.       S-130/190, ICS 100, ICS 200 and ICS 700


**If you do not currently hold any of the preferred certifications listed above, and are offered and accept employment with the Authority, we reserve the right to send you to an Authority-sponsored Firefighter and Wildland Firefighter academy education program.  Anticipated wildland academy to be completed by Spring 2024, and firefighter academy in fall of 2024.  


**If certifications are not valid in Colorado, must be able to obtain Colorado certifications within one (1) year of hire.


*Candidates who are currently enrolled in a program(s) to achieve these minimum qualifications or higher are encouraged to apply.


The Fire Chief may establish an eligibility list of qualified candidates. Candidates who are placed on the eligibility list will be notified of such. Eligibility lists are valid for up to 6 months, however, the Fire Chief reserves the right to re-test and establish a new list at any time.

Anticipated Compensation for 2024 (Upon budget approval):

$74,555.81 Step 1 
$78,283.60 Step 2 (Lateral Consideration Only)
$82,197.78 Step 3 (Lateral Consideration Only)

Paramedic Only: Hiring Bonus of $1,000 will be offered at the start of employment.  

Paramedic Only: Completion bonus of $2,500 will be given upon successful completion of their Field Training Evaluation Program (FTEP)


* We use a 28 consecutive day “work period” and overtime starts after

212 hours worked in said 28-day “work period.”

New Hire Academy:     January 12 – February 9, 2024 (no exceptions) 160-hour, four-week orientation academy, that is Monday through Friday 0800-1630
