The Town of Avon, Colorado, is accepting applications for full time, year-round Code Enforcement Officers with the Town of Avon’s Police Department.

The position of Code Enforcement Officer performs a variety of field work in support of the Avon Police Department community policing initiatives to include providing community education on topics regarding parks, preserve space, animal complaints, enforcing parking violations and issuing parking warnings and /or citations and code compliance calls. CRO can provide support on medical calls, motor vehicle accidents, traffic control and providing general visitor information. This is a non-sworn position.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position works primarily in a police patrol vehicle under a wide variety of weather conditions to include sub-zero temperatures, snow, rain, sleet, and hail. Personnel are subject to traffic hazards while patrolling and responding to emergencies in all traffic and weather conditions. Personnel are exposed to verbal and physical abuse while performing assigned duties and may be threatened and/or attacked with dangerous weapons while dealing with criminals, emotionally disturbed individuals, and persons with highly contagious diseases. Must physically restrain and transport stray domestic animals. May also patrol by bicycle or on foot; as well as perform duties in a standard office environment.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License 30 days after the hire date. Must successfully complete background investigation, polygraph, psychological and medical examination; as well as pass a drug screening. A High School diploma or GED with a minimum of two years public contact experience in a law enforcement environment is preferred. Spanish bilingual preferred but not required.
