The Public Works Supervisor – Parks from April to November is responsible for supervision of daily operations related to the Town’s parks, open spaces, grounds, green belts, street scape structures, and special events support staffing. For the months of December through March, the position is responsible for management and supervision, as assigned, for snow removal and low snow project assignments.

1.       Leads and guides the Public Works Staff to achieve town goals in the areas of risk management, customer service, communication, job knowledge and safety

2.       Assists as assigned with new staff orientation to ensure staff members are familiar with policies and procedures, evaluates work performance, provides constructive and positive feedback

3.       Assists as assigned with department safety and equipment training programs

4.       Performs routine pre/post checks and minor maintenance on vehicles and equipment prior to use and coordinates with fleet maintenance when major repairs are needed

5.       Plows and clears snow and ice from streets, sidewalks, paths, bus stops, parking lots, and sands and de-ices slippery surfaces as needed

6.       Sweeps and cleans sidewalks, roadways, and trails

7.       Assists with traffic control for special events, accidents, and work areas

8.       Assists as assigned with the operation of the sign program, producing, and installing a variety of new and replacement signs for the park

9.       Maintains park facilities, holiday lights, ice skating surface, turf, athletic fields, irrigation systems, landscaping, and trees

10.   Removes refuse from receptacles and manually picks up trash in park and other public areas daily

11.   Assists with ordering bulk material, supplies, hand tools, small equipment, and parts (e.g., pesticides, fertilizer, mulch de-icing material, topsoil, and sand)

12.   Assists with training employees in the operation and licensing of the Commercial Driver’s License and other duties performed by Public Works Operators

13.   Enforces necessary safety precautions with the operation of vehicles, heavy equipment, small equipment, power tools, traffic safety, and park maintenance

14.   Assists with managing parks and grounds to ensure safety and cleanliness of parks equipment, inspects park grounds, and submits recommendations on the upkeep, upgrade, construction, and or renovation of parks

15.   Assists in supervising the horticultural and arboricultural programs and other maintenance of public parks and town property

16.   Operate numerous pieces of light and heavy equipment, a variety of power tools, meters, and gauges

17.   Serves as a contact for out-sourced contractor for minor project performed in parks as needed, such as landscaping, irrigation repair, and snow plowing in the absence of the Public Works Superintendent

18.   Maintains parkland irrigation systems in well-functioning order

19.   Oversees small parks and drainage improvement project on Town properties as assigned

20.   Supervises routine maintenance of public facilities such as playing fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball courts, playgrounds, lake rental equipment and boat docks

21.   November-April will plow snow on the roads, parks, and builds and maintains winter recreation amenities, such as ice rinks
