The Town of Avon, Colorado, is accepting applications for a Transit Operator with the Town of Avon’s Mobility Department.

The Transit Operator seasonal part-time will operate Avon Transit buses and people movers in a safe, timely, and courteous manner. Transports passengers, documents rider ship and provides general and specific information to the riding public. 

This position is expected to work the winter season, November 1st, 2024 – April 15th, 2025

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Driving vehicles during varied weather conditions, hours and days (including holidays)
  • Operates buses and people movers on scheduled routes, special events and charters providing safe, timely and courteous transportation to the public
  • Performs scheduled pre-trip and post-trip inspections.  This includes conducting an external/internal visual inspection of the transit bus and pre-testing all necessary equipment, operating/safety devices and transit bus controls for use while in service.  Also sweeps the bus, empties the trash and performs a visual inspection for lost items at the end of service
  • Submits accurate daily trip sheets for management and data entry use
  • Employs defensive driving techniques
  • Maintains professional courtesy while under stress
  • Provides customer service information in a courteous, professional manner.  This includes operating a public address system to inform the public of arrivals and departures and responding to customer inquiries
  • Reports “manage to” count accurately and precisely at scheduled times each day
  • Responsible for knowing town and departmental safety policies and procedures
  • Completes required tracking and incident reports accurately and legibly as necessary at the end of scheduled shifts
  • Trains new and relief operators as required
  • Conducts self in an appropriate manner as a representative of The Town of Avon, working effectively in a diverse work environment, using prudent judgment at all times, performing duties in a safe manner, and assuring professional quality of services to all external and internal customers.
  • Operates a radio as required
  • Attends all required safety meeting

Qualifications
Must be 21 years old with a good driving record, a high school diploma or equivalent (GED), must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License. A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and P2 certification is preferred; however, the Town of Avon will provide paid training, and pay testing fees to meet these requirements for the right candidate.
