Position Summary: Primarily responsible for operating, monitoring, controlling, testing, and troubleshooting a surface water-based supply, distribution system, and a potable water treatment plant. Minimum of D Water certification required within 6 months of date of hire. This position may also perform a variety of routine and special activities for maintenance within the Public Works Department as conditions warrant.

Qualifications: • High School diploma or equivalent • A license/certification preferred, will consider B, C or D license • Experience with Water treatment plants helpful • Water Distribution license preferred • Must possess a valid driver’s license • Requires successful completion of MVR and criminal background check • Ability to work overtime, holidays, and rotating weekends on call. Able to respond to On Call requests in a reasonable time

Hiring Range, Education, Training and Certifications: Placement in the Water Operator position is at the discretion of management and is based on organizational needs and qualifications. There are five levels of Water Operator (A, B, C, D and Trainee) with different titles and pay ranges depending on certifications, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The following serves as a general framework of the minimum requirements for placement at each level:

WATER SYSTEM OPERATORS A, B, & C Colorado Class 3 Water Distribution Certification should be obtained within a period determined by management.

WATER SYSTEM OPERATOR A Hiring Range: $33.46 – $41.82/hourly. A pay rate above the hiring range may be considered based on the candidate’s qualifications, certifications, and experience. Water Operator A placement requires possession of a current Colorado Class A Water Operators Certification. Also, a minimum of 4 years related experience or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.

WATER SYSTEM OPERATOR B Hiring Range: $31.65 – $37.98/ hourly. A pay rate above the hiring range may be considered based on the candidate’s qualifications, certifications, and experience. Water Operator B placement requires possession of a current Colorado Class B Water Operators Certification. Also, a minimum of 3 years related experience or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.

WATER SYSTEM OPERATOR C Hiring Range: $26.84 – $32.21/ hourly. A pay rate above the hiring range may be considered based on the candidate’s qualifications, certifications, and experience. Water Operator C placement requires possession of a current Colorado Class C Water Operators Certification. Also, a minimum of 2 years related experience or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.

WATER SYSTEM OPERATOR D or TRAINEE Hiring Range: $23.64 – $28.37/ hourly. A pay rate above the hiring range may be considered based on the candidate’s qualifications, certifications, and experience. Water Operator D placement requires possession of a current Colorado Class D Water Operators Certification. D-License requires passing of CO state exam. Prefer a minimum of 6 months to 1-year related experience or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a fulltime, benefits eligible position. Normal days and hours of work are Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Friday’s we attempt to work a half day with potential for other hours to support events. Must be available for “On Call” during non-regular scheduled hours.
