Job Overview:

Winter Wildlands Alliance is seeking a qualified and experienced Membership Director to join our team. Must be an experienced and highly motivated individual to lead and manage the organization’s membership, outreach and engagement in the newly created position of Membership Director.

This person is responsible for creating and managing a successful membership program, including creating and implementing an annual plan for membership retention and growth, coordinating with all departments, strategic planning and budgeting. Additionally, this position coordinates development activities and oversees membership activities that include membership mailings, organizing and representing WWA at special events, gathering data and analytics on members, and making gratitude calls. The Membership Director also cultivates donors and helps identify prospects for possible higher gift amounts based on member history and research. A passion for advocacy, the backcountry, policy and human powered adventure a must.

Building on a string of successes in policy and education, Winter Wildlands Alliance is poised for growth and looking for the perfect candidate to expand existing membership programs and accelerate community engagement and influence through outreach, relationship building, program development, fundraising, membership, marketing, and beyond.

That ideal candidate is passionate about winter and the outdoors and has a deep and personal commitment to the mission of Winter Wildlands Alliance. Additionally, she/he should have broad experience that includes: Leadership paired with a get-it-done attitude, demonstrable success in leading fundraising and membership programs, excellent communication, event experience, inspirational outreach and management skills, and an environmental policy/advocacy ethos.

Key Strategies:

Our main focus is to create a cohesive, meaningful and strong message / call to action for all backcountry skiers, snowboarders, snowshoers and winter backcountry recreation advocates to be members of the organization that advocates for their participation, lands and access to a winter wilderness experience.

Create marketing / communications calendars for ongoing outreach & engagement
Provide membership programs and compelling incentives for members
Communicate member value
Foster key members to create regular and increased giving levels of membership / engagement within WWA
Implement ongoing membership initiatives to create a consistent and year-round engagement plan
Create partnership and growth opportunities via membership for WWA
Generate a consistent and diversified revenue stream

Position Qualifications:

Preferred minimum 5 years of experience in marketing and communications in membership management, at least 2 years in a leadership position.
Demonstrated experience in both traditional and digital marketing, as well as public relations and membership strategy a plus.
Skilled project manager with excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through. Ability to balance multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, working well under pressure and adapting to challenges and opportunities with a solution-oriented perspective.
Demonstrated leadership experience, including the management and support of team members, building relationships with external stakeholders, and sound judgment and decision-making skills.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Demonstrated experience in developing and managing department budgets.
Donor cultivation experience, membership experience a plus, especially with nonprofits
Proficient and comfortable working in platforms such as a CRM database, content management system, marketing automation software, and Google Analytics.
Motivated and interested to learn about Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity principles and to integrate those principles into their work.
Understanding of standard nonprofit membership structure and development strategies
Exceptional follow-through and creative problem solving
Strong written and verbal communications skills
Very detail oriented
Ability to work collaboratively with a team, while also showing strong self-initiative
Dedication to WWA’s mission
Passion and experience as a human-powered backcountry user (ski, snowboard, snowshoe, etc.)
Position in based in Boise, ID
Education and Experience:

BA/BS, preferably in Marketing, Communications, Business or related fields
Reporting Relationships:

Employee reports to the Executive Director
