Stories of Mountain Town professionals, Barclay Content Marketing Manager at Ski.com | Community Manager at The Ski Locker – Steamboat
Meet Barclay, Content Marketing Manager at Ski.com AND Community Manager at The Ski Locker – Steamboat
Tell us about your career…
I just starting working for Ski.com a month ago. The marketing team is outstanding and hosts a unique balance of multiple perspectives and voices. From crafting newsletters that concern curated experiences in places like Japan and Chamonix, France to writing blogs on destination skiing and the like, everyone collaborates on everything. Working in groups that all maintain a strategic marketing direction is priceless as a content creator.
I’ve been working in digital media and marketing for over 7 years now. Most recently, I stepped down as the managing editor at Unofficial Networks, where I created over 5k blog posts over the course of 5 years. In addition to creating written content, I serve as the community manager at Steamboat’s one and only coworking space, The Ski Locker – Steamboat.
Why did you move to the mountains?
I moved to the mountains for one reason and one reason only– SKIING. Ever since I was a kid, I’d dreamed of living in a ski town. So after earning my B.A. in English from Sewanee, The University of the South, I moved directly to Jackson Hole where I ski bummed for the better part of 4 years.
What is the best part?
Besides the easy access to skiing, mountain town communities are typically more involved compared to the other places I lived. In Steamboat, I really appreciate the expectation that if you’re going to live here for more than a season, you need to be active in the community. Whether that’s by serving a non-profit board or showing up to city council meetings, these communities appreciate those who give back.
What advice do you have for someone looking to make the move?
I think it’s important to find a community that fits your career if you’re going to make life work in the mountains. That’s why I founded the Ski Locker – Steamboat. It’s a place where professionals can talk just as freely about their careers as they can ski runs from the past weekend.
