The Role:
We’re seeking a strategic and experienced Director of Transportation to lead our transportation department. This position is responsible for all aspects of student transportation and fleet operations, including safety compliance, staff supervision, routing and scheduling, budgeting, and emergency preparedness. You’ll play a key leadership role in ensuring safe and efficient transportation services for students across the district.
Reports to: Executive Director of Operations
Supervises: Fleet Manager, Dispatch/EBB Supervisor, Trainers, Behavior Specialists, Support Staff, Scheduler, and Bus Drivers
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage all aspects of the Transportation Department
- Supervise hiring, training, evaluation, and daily operations across two terminals
- Administer and forecast department budget
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal transportation laws and regulations
- Investigate incidents and manage student and employee discipline as needed
- Maintain and oversee routing, scheduling, vehicle maintenance, safety programs, and training
- Develop and manage policies, procedures, reports, and recruitment initiatives
- Advise district leadership on inclement weather closures and transportation-related decisions
- Present updates to the Board of Education and other stakeholders
- Serve as a liaison to families, staff, the community, and government agencies
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; 2 years of relevant coursework preferred in Education, Business, Management, or Transportation
- Minimum 5 years of experience in transportation, including 3 years in a supervisory role
- CDL Class B with Passenger and School Bus endorsements (CDL-BP2S) required
- Knowledge of DOT regulations, CDL requirements, Colorado Motor Vehicle Code, CDE and FCC guidelines
- Exceptional leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and transportation-related software
- Ability to build positive relationships and lead high-performing teams
