Position Summary

On a day-to-day basis, travel around ski areas by use of a truck, snowmobile and/or lift access via skis or snowboard to check water, waste-water systems, and associated utilities to ensure building operations, often during operating hours when guests are present.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Checks water levels in tanks to ensure quality day-to-day operation of all on-mountain restaurants
Checks water plants for levels of chlorine, coagulants and lubricating liquids. Enters data into log books located at strategic areas and fills out turbidity reports that are submitted to the state of Colorado
Has computer knowledge in several programs to manage plants that are on line (all four Mountains). Basic familiarity with SCADA systems preferred.
Can rebuild small pumps necessary to keep plants operational
Has basic knowledge of electrical switches and relays
Understands concepts of water meters, back flow preventers and check valves
Occasional snow cat operation
Will assist with other Facilities Management functions as needed
Implement and maintain energy conservation measures on a routine basis
Must be able to set or change a faucet, re-plumb a sink, service waterless fixtures, sweat and solder a pipe, and perform other building related plumbing
Uses power tools in a safe and competent manner
Works safely around trenching and shoring operations on a daily basis
Familiar and trained for lock-out/tag-out and confined space
Performs various building maintenance tasks as needed
Understands and can diagnose telemetry systems
Able to calibrate turbidity monitoring equipment
Able to calibrate Chlorine monitoring equipment
Understand power requirements
Diagnose power issues with control panels and usage of a voltage meter
Manhole inspections
Required to participate in sewer repairs
Ability to do carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, HVAC, snow removal, cleaning and all other routine facility maintenance and construction task.
Proficient with all hand, power and pneumatic tools and the ability to use them safely.
Operate and maintain an Aspen Skiing Company truck
Report all safety hazards and suspicious persons or activities to management. Adhere to all safety standards set by the department and company along with local, city and state laws
Review and inspect all life safety systems to ensure proper testing and operation
Maintain all tools in a clean and orderly condition
Be available for emergency calls and be able to respond adequately
Complete work order assignments in a timely manner.
Able to work without direct supervision
Able to organize and coordinate outside contractors to complete work orders
Complete purchases and keep up with inventory along with all department paperwork
Is able to set up and carry out preventative maintenance programs
Maintain a clear, uncluttered work area
Learn locations of all buildings and associated utilities
Be able to cover for Utility Manager in all aspects of the job when needed
Work closely with restaurant managers and other facilities to maintain systems specific to their buildings
Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
Know and support ASC’s Guiding Principles, Mission Statement, ASC’s environmental management system.
Know how to use a line locator and operate a see snake
Works closely with restaurant managers and other on-mountain facilities to maintain systems specific to their buildings

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Must be able to ski or snowboard at an advanced-intermediate level
Constantly strive to obtain state licensing requirements
Must be able to ski/snowboard on an advanced level
Education, Experience, Certificates & Licenses
Three years of experience in water works preferred
High school diploma or equivalent required
Must have an unrestricted, current Drivers License
Hold a minimum Class “D” Water Plant Operators license, or higher preferred
Hold a minimum Level “1” Water Distribution License, or higher preferred
Must be proficient in math skills associated with water including, but not limited to:
Able to calculate tank volumes, pipe elevation and pressure
Able to calculate elevations/P.S.I. to find pipe breaks
Understand flow rates & pipe volume
Able to calculate chemical dosages and pump rates, read and understand pump curves
OSHA 10 and confined space entry certifications

Working Conditions
Must be able to lift, push/pull up to 50 lbs, 100 lbs. with assistance
Must be able to work outdoors in mountain environment weather conditions for extended periods of time
