Eagle County Government is hiring two Community Development Planners. Depending on an applicant’s level of experience, they may be hired into one of the following roles: Assistant Planner (Planner 1), Associate Planner (Planner 2) or Senior Planner (Planner 3). See the descriptions and qualifications for all levels below.

As Eagle County grows and evolves, county planners work with developers, builders and homeowners to ensure construction projects meet the requirements of our county. Planners will be responsible for coordinating development applications, site plan review, collecting and analyzing planning data; preparing planning studies and reports; assists in policy analysis and formulation; updates the county’s comprehensive plan; reviews development applications and prepares staff reports.

Assistant Planner (Planner 1) (Salary Range: $50,378-$74,718)

The Assistant Planner position is critical to delivering exemplary planner on duty customer service. The Assistant Planner is expected to work with customers at the public service counter, over the telephone, and through email to answer questions and provide solution-oriented advice, work with applicants to ensure their projects implement adopted plans by meeting land use regulations and building code requirements while also helping to effectively and efficiently guide them through the planning process. Additionally, the Assistant Planner will work directly or through intergovernmental agreements with partner organizations to help implement adopted plans. Extensive contact with the public and outside agencies is required. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Urban/Regional Planning or a related field from an accredited college or university. 
  • One year experience implementing and enforcing land use regulations.
  • Masters Degree, AICP Cert & local government experience preferred

Associate Planner (Planner 2) (Salary Range: $58,366 – $87,560)

The Associate Planner position is a critical team member whose primary focus is current planning which includes processing land-use files, building permits, and acting as back-up planner on duty. The Associate Planner is expected to carry a large current planning project file caseload with projects ranging from administrative to complex. At any given time, 8 – 12 active land-use files should be expected. This position will also have a heavy caseload of building permit review, roughly 10 – 15 active building permits at any given time. The Associate Planner will provide exemplary customer service and project management by working with customers at the public service counter, at meetings, over the telephone, and through email to answer questions and provide solution-oriented advice to ensure their projects implement adopted plans by meeting Eagle County Land Use Regulation and building code requirements while also helping to effectively and efficiently guide them through the planning process. Additionally, the Associate Planner will work directly or through intergovernmental agreements with partner organizations to help implement adopted plans. Extensive contact with the public and outside agencies is required. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Urban/Regional Planning or a related field from an accredited college or university.  
  • At least three years of increasingly responsible experience in planning including current planning, long range planning, transportation planning, or environmental planning. 
  • Masters Degree, AICP Cert & local government experience preferred

Senior Planner (Planner 3) (Salary Range: $64,567 -$96,851)

The Senior Planner position’s main focus is to lead the Current Planning Program with support and supervision from the Planning Manager. This includes leading weekly Development Review Team meetings, the development and continuous improvement of Eagle County’s Land Use Regulations, processing complex land use files, managing building permit processes and assignment, and providing exemplary customer service through supervising and supporting the department’s planners.

It is expected that this position will review high priority or complex building permits. The Senior Planner will support the planner on duty through providing guidance, review, and in person front desk support as needed. The Senior Planner will coordinate with the Planning Manager to assign project files, attend pre-application meetings, process land use files, and present to appropriate decision making bodies. As the lead for the Current Planning Program, the Senior Planner – Current Planning will help train, coordinate and support Customer Service and Current Planning planners work, including providing performance feedback to the Planning Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Urban/Regional Planning or a related field from an accredited college or university.  
  • Four years experience implementing and enforcing land use regulations.
  • Must possess a clear working knowledge of current and long-range land use planning principles and processes
  • Masters Degree, AICP Certification & local government experience preferred
